Charles Tower Column Repairs

Scope

Project included the review and evaluation of a deteriorated concrete column at the base of an occupied 32 story residential building. Project challenges included the development of a repair design which limited the removal of sound concrete during repairs to avoid the need for extensive shoring of the floors above. The repair design included a combination of partial depth repairs and externally applied carbon fiber reinforcing to strengthen the existing column in place while minimizing impacts on the occupied boiler room and residential spaces above.
